Lilian Timothy, an accident victim with permanent deformity, has cried out, seeking justice against one Chamah Phillip, whose son is said to be married to a cousin of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Timothy told Saharareporters on Tuesday in Yola, the state capital that Phillip while overtaking a vehicle, rammed into the commercial tricycle she had boarded with another female passenger, who died shortly at the hospital.

She further alleged that Phillip’s son who married into Governor Fintiri’s family boasted about his connection with powerful politicians.

She said Phillip abandoned her to her fate after the accident.

She, therefore, called on Governor Fintiri, the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and other relevant authorities and organisations to wade into the matter.

According to her, Phillip never showed any concern about her condition since his alleged recklessness led to her deformity let alone pay her medical bills which reportedly amount to about N7 million.

She also alleged that Phillip might have been using his influence to frustrate his trial that was ongoing.

Timothy said, “On the day of the fatal accident, I was returning home after work when he hit our tricycle with his Peugeot 406 while trying to overtake another vehicle at the bottom of the Jimeta bridge.

“We were two passengers, both of us ladies; she died shortly after we got to the hospital. I survived with multiple fractures on my left leg.

“This man never cared to visit me or to know who’s paying my medical bills, despite spending about N7 million so far between orthopaedic hospitals in Kano, Gombe and here in Yola.

“Initially I never cared about any court case with him, even though it is the police that charged him to court but eventually I obliged because of his arrogance.

“When we met in the courtroom, his son boastfully said he was married to Governor Fintiri’s cousin, as such they were not afraid of the courts and that I would never get justice.

“I’m aware ordinarily I shouldn’t comment about a matter before the court, but I was constrained to cry out because ‘monkey look like man’.

“The trial magistrate was on the verge of determining the matter when suddenly he was transferred. This means the case would have to start afresh before a different magistrate.

“That’s why I decided to cry out to Governor Fintiri, FIDA and other good people to look into my matter. All I want is justice, let justice be served.”

However, court documents seen by SaharaReporters indicate that the case was withdrawn from the trial magistrate because Phillip had petitioned the Chief Justice of the state, alleging bias in the trial.
