Before you download Liverpool Anthem, also known as Liverpool theme song, “You’ll never Walk Alone” was originally written in 1945 by Rodgers and Hammerstein as the theme song for a musical Film called Carousel.
Bt then in 1964, Gerry Marsden – who died today – was the head of a musical band named Gerry and the Pacemakers, who made a cover version of the You’ll Never Walk Alone song with his band. The song was one of his favourites as a kid since he saw the film “Carousel”.
The Cover song went on to become a hit in the UK and the DJ at Anfield played the music regularly before matches until it became a tradition.
In 1965, You’ll Never Walk Alone became LFC’s official Anthem.
But You’ll never walk alone is also been sung by Celtic, whose is it really, Liverpool?
The song was subsequently adopted by Celtic fans, after a 1966 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final at Anfield, and is sung today by fans of Borussia Dortmund and several other clubs, but the truth is that ‘YNWA’ remains indelibly Liverpool soccer anthem.
